Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Bratacharini (1955)


Bratacharini is a 1955 Indian Bengali family film released on Oct 21, 1955. The film is directed by Kamal Gangopadhyay, music composed by Kamal Dasgupta.

Sita (Sandhya Rani), the main character of the movie lives in a jamindar's house. Ahindra Chowdhury is the jamindar, his elder son's wife is Malina Debi, and their son is Jyotirmoy. Sabitri Chattopadhyay is Jyotirmoy's cousin. Ahindra Chowdhury promises Sita's father that his grand son's wife would be Sita but Jyotirmoy loves Anuva. He refuses his grandfather and marries Anuva. As a result Ahindra deprives his grandson from all his wealth. Malina Debi is taken very ill. Sabitri and her mother come to the house. Ina and Jyotirmoy become very friendly but Sabitris mother is very jealous of Sita. nd joytirmoy become very friendly like sisters but Sabitri's mother was very jealous of Sita. One day during a puja at home she creates problems with Sita, Malina Debi comes here and her illness aggravates and she dies. After this Ahindra Chowdhury bequeathes his entire property to Sita. Sabitris mother tries to get her married to a drunkard but Jyotirmoy is totally against this marriage. He decides to arrange for money to get his sister married. On being unable to do so he writes to Sita for help. On finding out that his granddaughter is married to a drunkard, Ahindra Chowdhury dies of shock. Jyotirmoy comes home at this time and he himself falls critically ill. Sita nurses him to recovery. Once he is fine she wants to leave leaving all the wealth to him. But Jyotirmoy refuses the wealth and asks her to stay back and take care of it.
