After his father's death Chandranath had a difference of opinion with his uncle Manishankar. So Manishankar gave Chandranath his share of property. Chandranath fell lonely in that huge property. So he went out for a tour after giving charge of the property to his maternal uncle Brojakishore and manager. Chandranath came to priest Haridayal Ghosal's home in Kashi. In Haridayal's house there lived a poor widow and her daughter Saroju. Hearing Chandranath's decision Haradayal was happy, but his wife Harakali didn't like as she was planning her niece Punturani to be married with Chandranath. After marrying Saroju became surprised seeing the rashness of the property. She became afraid also. Chandranath felt that there was a distance between him and Saroju. One day Chandranath came to know about the fear of Saroju. When a letter from Haradayal Ghosal came to Manishankar. It was written in that letter that Saroju's mother was an unchaste woman. When Saraju was only three years old, Saroju's mother left her home and went away with Rakhaldas Bhattacharya. Manishankar showed that letter to Chandranath He had no other way then he leave Saroju. Chandranath came to home, to Saroju. Saroju was fearless because she had nothing to hide from her husband. Chandranath said even after many instigations he might not leave saroju. So Saroju said only way out was taking poison. At night Saroju tried to take the poison but couldn't she was expecting Chandranath's child. Saroju left the house next morning. But before her leaving Chandranath came to know that he was going to be a father. Saroju left for Kashi with the manager. But Haridayal Ghosal did not allow Saroju to stay there. But Kailash uncle came forward and took Saroju to his house. Chandranath's life became boring again. One day he realized Saroju and his child did not do any wrong, rather they were suffering for the faults of not their own. So again he went out on a tour. Saroju became mother of a son. Kailash uncle had named him Biswanath. One day Chandranath came and saw Saroju. Next morning Chandranath left for his house with Saroju and Biswanath with him. Kailash uncle again became alone as he was before Saroju came to his house.
