Chhote Babu is a 1957 Indian Bollywood family drama, social film released on Jan 01, 1957. The film is directed by Harsukh Bhatt.
Gopal and Shanker two bosom friends were living together in a small hill station "Neelam Ghat". Shanker due to his constant sickness had developed a terrible complex that he is a burden to his friend and will never get the lady love in his life. . Gopal an assistant Station Master popularly known as Chhote- Babu" was full of life and had his sweet heart Sandhya serving as a nurse in a local hospital. She was sincere to her profession and was considered as an angel walking on earth due to her kindness and sweet temperament Her love for Gopal was boundless. Service to humanity comes first was her belief. Gopal and Sandhya were ideal lovers with no reservations yet when Sandhya would ask Gopal why he does not let her meet his friend Shanker about whom he talks such a lot. Gopal would always find some excuse. . Gopal and Sandhya decide to get married, Gopal is over joyed to break this news to Shanker the dearest to him in his life. He comes home rushing, puts on the light and says `Shanker - He shouts but Shanker to-day i am giving you the happiest news of my life. I am getting married. Are not you listening to me? where are you? Shanker - Shanker He shouts but Shanker is not to be found. . Where could her go? What have i done to be left alone like this We had pledged to liv eand die together. Gopal goes half crazy. . Sandhya is informed that a certain patient does not accpet medicine from any one. He does not want to live he says. She attends to him. Kailash the new patient falls in love with Sandhya is the girl of his dreams. `I love you Sandhya and I cant live without you. . "You seem to have gone crazy. How could you ever utter these words. I have always treated this hospital as a temple." She bursts into tears and leaves the hospital. . "I shall kill that man. How dare any one misbehave with Sandhya" It was pitch dark. Sandhyas voice was overheard by Gopal "Go away - Go away from here. I dont want to see your face ever after this." Kailash gets a relapse and faints. Gopal comes rushing only to find that Kailash is none else than his dear friend Shanker, who had not revealed his identity in the hospital with the fear of being sent back to Gopal. . Gopal could never believe his ears when the doctor told him that Shankar was in love with Sandhya and might even loose his life due to this heavy shock. . Sandhya would not sacritice her love at any cost. "We have a life of our own. If all the patient start making love to the nurses how are the poor nurses to be blamed for it". She told Gopal. Gopal pleaded for Shanker but Sandhya called him a coward who could not face realities of life. The pledge between the two friends should not be broken.
