C.I.D. 1956

C.I.D. is a 1956 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1956. The film is directed by Raj Khosla, produced by Guru Dutt under banner named Guru Dutt Films.

Editor Srivastava is the editor of Bombay Times, and a much liked man all around. A man calls him up and informs him that someone is going to get killed. He informs CID Inspector Shekhar (Dev Anand) about this incident. The man who gets killed is the Editor himself in his office. Shekhar arrives at the editors office soon after. He notices a man in the lift cursorily, who is the real killer. He chases the killer's car in a girl's car but gives up after a while due to the girl's interference. A pickpocket master (Johnny Walker) is witness to the whole incident as he was present in the office during the time of the murder and saw the murderer. He is interrogated by the police. Shekhar starts looking for the murderer and manages to arrest him at his den. As it happens, Shekhar also starts getting close to Rekha (Shakila), the girl in whose car he had been charging the killer. She turns out to be the daughter of his boss. The SP CID (K. N. Singh). Shekhar recieves a call one day at his office from a girl who claims to have information regarding the murder case. She asks him to come and meet her in a car which is waiting for him outside his office. He goes to the car and meets the girl Kamini (Waheeda Rehman). She asks him to release the killer (Mehmood) against which he would be paid some money. He refuses and is made unconscious. He is dumped on the Bombay-Agra Road from where he finds himself at Rekha's house. At Rekha's birthday party, h sees Kamini who happens to be a close friend of Rekha, but cant actually recognize her properly. Kamini goes way after seing Shekhar and he also leaves Rekha's party and starts following Kamini. Members of the murderer's gang pick up Master as he is a key witness to the murder and had identified the murderer at the CID office. They threaten and scare him a little and later allow him to go away. Meanwhile Shekhar starts interrogating the murder suspects in the office, gets him too and puts him in his cell. Two other criminals in the cell who have been planted there by his gang members, finish him off so that he doesn't say anything to the police. Now, there is a court case in which everything goes against Shekhar as if, it is due to his negligence, that the prisoner collapsed in his cell and died. The judge decides to take a decision the following day. When Shekhar goes home, Master tells him that the gang members had picked him up and taken him to an undisclosed destination and then let him go. So Shekhar takes him and reaches that place and get to the root of the matter. Shekhar flees and the police start looking for him everywhere. He arrives at that place where some gang members shoot at him and he is injured. Kamini treats him and gives shelter to Shekhar from her boss. Where her boss is planning arrest of Shekhar, Shekhar and Kamini flee from the place and the gang mambers go after them. They shoot at Kamini, who gets injured while they are about to enter the police station. Since Kamini is closest Shekhar's got to the criminals, SP and he make a plan. It is announced in the papers that Kamini is recovering and they know the killer, who would likely fall in the trap. Soon enough, the mastermind behind this killing Seth Dharamdas goes to a hotel, where Kamini is and tries to kill her, but is unsuccessful. And he is arrested by police. Shekhar is now a free man.
