Do Dil is a 1965 Indian Bollywood costume film released on 1965. The film is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, music composed by Hemanta Mukherjee.
On his death bed the king willed that his daughter, banished for marrying a Commoner. Should return to the Royal palace and that her son be the future King. If, however, the Princess of her son could not be found, then succession would automatically pass to the dying Kings nephew, Pratap Shing. . Confident that the Princess and her son would never be traced. Pratap Singh awaited his elevation to Kingship. His hpes were shattered when Man Singh, rightful heri to the throne, was found. Man Singh had been brought up by a priest as a simple villager, and though he looked to be a simpleton he was possessed of sterling qualities of the head and heart and was ideally suited to rule over his people. . Ranima, sister of the late King took a liking to her grand-nephew and assumed guardianship in preparing him for his royal duties. Meanwhile Pratap Singh bided his time, looking for an opportunity to overthrow Man-Singh, whom he openly hated. The opportunity came in the form fo a tribal chieftains daughter, Bijlee. . Man Singh met and fell deeply in love wiht he was oware of the enimity and hatred that had existed for countless generations between the royal family and the royal family and the aboriginal tribals, Man Singh just did not know how ot hate, for he had been brought up to learn only how to love. . In order to avoid puying eyes. Man Singh would meet Bijlee disguised as his own valet. He cherished the hope that the futile hatred between the two families would one day be banished forever, but beofre he could accomplish this noble object, he fell into the trap set for him by Pratap Singh. . The latter arranged that Ranima should herself discover Man Singh and Bijlee together. In a towering rage. Ranima gave an ultimatum to Man Singh-that he would have to choose between Kingdom and love. As a true lover. Man Singh followed the dictates of his heart and prepared to forego his heritage. . But the forces of good shall always trimph over evil, and all of Pratap Singhs scheming, which almost succeeded in depriving Man Singh of both the throne and the girl he loved, came to naught.
