Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Fariyad (1971)
Fariyad is a excellent specimen work of Mr.Bijoy Basu. The movie focuses on the exploitation of a poor woman and how she compromises with everything in order to give her son a bright future. It is about a greedy father surrendering his daughter to a bar owner. Baren Mallik exploits Ratnamala(Suchitra Sen) to her limit. With the help of money power he captures Ratanmala. Ratanmala has no one to support her in her misery and has to agree to be a bar singer in Baren Mallik's hotel. Mallik does not show any signs of humanity at all. He is a beast in the skin of a human. He tortures Ratanmala and abuses her . Ratanmala's son Prasanta grows up to become a notorious criminal. He hates his mother. But when he comes to know about the sacrifices she made only for him a metamorphosis takes place in him. It is Prasanta who at the end frees Ratanmala from the clutches of Baren Mallik. He kills Baren Mallik thus avenging his mother. In the end Ratanmala holds her son when he is being arrested and weeps both in joy and grief.
