Gehra Daag is a 1963 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1963. The film is directed by O. P. Rathan, music composed by Ravi.

Shankar is a college student, who has an elder sister and a younger sister. One day he sees a fellow college student making some dirty comments about his elder sister in the college. There is fight and in the process the college student takes the gardener's sickle to hit Shankar. In the ongoing fight, the student dies and the sickle is in the hands of Shankar. He is put in jail for 14 years. Due to his good conduct he is released after 10 years. "Truth is a great protective shield and love is the all winning weapon”, with these words a kind jailor, sends out a prisoner on his release. He comes out of jail. He plans to meet his sisters and buys clothes. The packet is exchanged with that of a gril named Shoba, who stays in a girl's hostel. On his way home to meet his sister at Baxur, he meets Shobha and her mother. Her mother falls from the ship and Shanker rescues her. Shobha gives him a new meaning to his life. She teaches him to live life for the moment, for the present. Thus encouraged, he tries to pick up the strands of his disturbed family life. He is happy, feeling almost whole again. Then disaster strikes. His younger sister, whose marriage has been arranged, is broken off the day of the wedding, as no one wants to marry in the family of an ex-convict. Bitter, disillusioned, suicide seems to be the only option. Shobha saves him. Just when everything seems to be normal again, when happiness is around the corner, he sees something that shatters him. What he has seen is something that could make him a criminal again. Something that reopens the wound in his soul.
