Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Gopal Krishna (1938)

Gopal Krishna is a 1938 Indian Bollywood musical film released on 1938. The film is directed by Damle, music composed by Master Krishna Rao.
Damle and Fattelal followed up their hit Sant Tukaram (1936) with this remake of Shantarams silent mythological Gopal Krishna (1929). It tells of the playful child Krishna (Marathe) and his battle against the evil King Kamsa (Ganpartro) who rules the city of Gokul. The stories, mainly from the popular Bhagvat and Vishnu Purana, also show Krishna vanquishing Keshi (Haribhau), Kamsas general who arrives in disguise to capture film. Finally, when Kamsa unleashes rain and flood over the city ( in a departure from the original legend where Indra caused the natureal disaster), krishna raises the mountain Govardhan over the people to protect them. From its opening sequences showing the cows and cowherds returning at sunset, the milking of the animals and the churning of the milk, the film develops, a strongly materialist flavour, playing down miracle scenes until the climatic storm and the raising the mountain. The fast-paced dialogue and esp. the antics of Krishnas sidekick Pendya (Parashuram) help to make this a family favourite which made the child actor (and later noted classical musician) Ram Marathe famous [Source: Encyclopaedia of Indian Cinema] Check out this page for more updates on Gopal Krishna.
