Haathi Mere Saathi is a 1971 Indian Bollywood film released on 1971. Haathi Mere Saathi is the story of a man who believes that animals are not mere beasts, but are infact better than human beings. And he loves them like people love their friends or brothers or fellow beings . This is Raju, the only son of a rich man, whos life was saved from a cheetahs attack in his childhood by four elephants. Since then these elephants are an integral part of his life. He has lived and grown up with them. . Suddenly fate playes a cruel game and Raju suddenly becomes a poor man. His creditors grab his house and his property. But even in these adverse circumstance he doesnt part with his beloved elephants, and refuses to sell them even for a hefty price. . Raju loves a rich mans daughter, Tanu. When her father finds out that his young man is out on the streets and struggling to make a living, he throws Raju out when he goes to his house to meet Tanu. And he lies to his daughtr that Raju has succumbed to the proposition of getting a huge dowry and has gone off to Bombay to marry a very rich girl. One day, quite by chance, Tanu finds Raju slogging hard on the streets to eke out a loving. She goes home and fights with her father to lying to her. When her father tries to reprimand her, she walks out of the house, and leaves in search of Raju. . With the help of Tanu and the elephants, Raju slowly manages to work hard and becomes rich once again. Tanus father accepts him as his son-in-law and gives the couple a lavish wedding. The much-in-love Raju and Tanu pass their days in bliss and Tanu soon gives birth to a baby. . And Rajus favourite elephant, Ramu loves the child so much that he spends all his time looking after him. One day, Tanu sees a mahaout son who has been trampled on by an elephant in hospital. And she feel disgusted with all elephants. She starts believing that some day Ramu too will kill her child. This leads to tension and arguments between Raju and Tanu. Finally they fall apart and Tanu leaves the house and goes away. . The rest of the film is about how Ramu tries to bring the estranged couple together.
