Not lifting upto the expectations! Ten years ago, Farah Khan made her debut with ‘Mai hoon na’. The film was a box-office hit. Her next film with Shahrukh Khan in ‘Om Shanti om’ turned out to be the blockbuster. Again, it was Farah Khan who directed the film ‘Happy new year’ with well-known Bollywood celebs. The film’s story starts with a dance competition. The film starts with Charlie aka Shahrukh who searches for his team to steal Rs 300 Crore diamonds from a goon who did the same with his father. So, there starts the actual manhunt. He slowly is introduced to everyone. But he wants someone who can teach them to dance. So, his search ends on a bar dancer, Mohini with whom he starts falling in love. Then she teaches them to dance and they win each and every round of the dance competition. In the story, there comes a twist with Mohini coming to know the actual reason behind Charlie’s participation in the dance competition. So she denies her participation in the competition. Charlie after confessing his actual reason to her, she decides to help this gang in getting those Rs 300 crore diamonds. The end is shown how this gang takes these diamonds from the villain. The story is simply worthless. It’s a bit of disaster to watch the film in the first half. Talking about the performances, the film has got some excellent performances by Shahrukh Khan, Deepika, Abhishek and Boman Irani. Vivaan Shah made a good debut. But, the story lacks in the strong script and its more on ‘masala movie types’. Farah Khan as a director didn’t worked upto the expectations. Even after lacking a strong script, the film made good efforts on ranking itself in the 100 crore box-office. Guess somewhere also found that the film has made efforts to extended it for 3 hours. The film has hilarious comedy scenes that keep you engage till 3 hours. The music given in the film is delightful, especially the song ‘Manva lagee re’. What’s more interesting in the story is the chemistry between Deepika and Shahrukh, it speaks much in love. The film has got not to miss cameos of many well-known celebs. The film’s choreographers have worked hard to give Deepika and the gang those perfect moves which are the main highlights of the film. But somewhere, Farah’s same ‘masala’ movie concepts is filled with many flaws. I mean, working on the same genres is not what you can expect from Farah Khan. Good direction and strong story line is Farah Khan’s strong points and that’s the ultimate reason why ‘Main hoon na’ and ‘Om Shanti om’ had worked well. The film could have been even better and therefore, it failed to lift upto the expectations. You can’t miss this film only for spellbinding dance grooves and good music from the film.
