Hasee Toh Phasee is for the romantics who like their martinis stirred not shaken. Debutant director Vinil Mathew’s straight-forward approach is smart and fresh; his characters are lovable…If you’re looking to rediscover the magic of goofy love around Valentines, give HTP a shot.Read full review4.0

No matter how you look at it, the film and every rich resplendent moment in it, belongs to Parineeti Chopra. She irons out all the rough spots in the storytelling, hides all the wrinkles in the jaded plot and makes her character seem far more empathetic than it would have been in a lesser actress’ hands.Read full review4.0

The film may be a Rom-com or a coming-of-the-age-film, yet Meeta’s strong presence also makes it a character film. She isn’t the typical graceful heroine of a Hindi film who is waiting for her Raj. She is unconventional, eccentric and ambitious…Overall, this film is a must on your weekend planner if you are a Hindi movie buff.Read full review3.5

It’s heart-warming, funny and enjoyable. And it touches a chord. What really makes the film work is that its tone is entirely original – a part of which comes from the writing, and the other from the way it’s executed – and which remains consistent through the film.Read full review3.0

Despite its problems, it’s pretty good fun. Brimming with witty dialogue and some genuinely heartfelt moments, the film doesn’t snap even under the weight of its clichéd climax. At 2 hours and 21 minutes, it’s a tad long and repetitive, yet saved by some solid acting. Parineeti Chopra, in particular, deserves every accolade that’ll come her way; this is her fourth film release and once again she’s the best thing in it.Read full review3.0

Boy meets girl is often the most overused, mainstream , rom-com idea but Vinil Mathew’s treatment makes Hasee Toh Phasee flourish as a winner. I was disappointed with many parts but overall the film stayed with me longer than I expected it to. Sidharth’s subtle charm and Parineeti’s crackling yet astonishingly stunning performance are the biggest attributes why the film had me engaged till the lights went off. I am going with a 3/5 and a big thumbs up. Fresh thought is always fabulous!Read full review3.0

A huge chunk of debutant director Vinil Mathew’s Hasee Toh Phasee takes you through this woh saat din romcom in a refreshing way even though it all happens in the backdrop of a predictable, big fat Indian wedding with uncles, aunts and cousins, adding dollops of colour, fun and madness to it. It threatens to get slightly melodramatic in the second half but quickly saves itself from a deja vu pit.Read full review3.0

Hasee Toh Phasee is a refreshing, much-needed entry in the contemporary romcom genre, which has lately seen a series of uninspiring films. It’s largely to do with the presence of an unseen pairing with great chemistry – Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra – and Mathew and writer Harshvardhan Kulkarni’s perky take on love.Read full review3.0

I’m happy to report that Hasee toh Phasee is very unlike its promos. For what it is, which is a bittersweet romcom triangle with a dash of dysfunctional family drama, it is actually pretty entertaining. And for all its periodic lapses in logic it is a well-made commercial film that actually does have a little something for everyone.Read full review3.0

The film, that is only 2 and half hours long has everything in it to make you smile, laugh and cry at the same time. While we certainly cannot say that it is the best rom-com film, it has a narrative that ‘connects’ you to the characters and the plot, and that is the success of Hasee Toh Phasee.Read full review3.0

At some level, the writers have been subconsciously inspired by the Anne Hathaway-starrer ‘Rachel Getting Married': a bleak drama about a wayward rehab-returned woman attending her sister’s wedding over a weekend… Parineeti as Meeta is one for the ages; she is the powering force behind a well-mounted film which, for most of its 141 minutes, is a timely shot in the arm for a traditionally mishandled genre.Read full review3.0

Don`t go for the movie if you are expecting a candy-floss romance. This movie is quirky and breaks some stereotypes. Parineeti`s performance is adorable and definitely a great plus point for the movie. Even though it is just a one time watch, this definitely makes a great valentines date. Take your girlfriend or spouse out for this movie and cosy up with a tub of pop corn for a not-so-typical romance.Read full review3.0

The first-time director portrays this easy-on-the-eye, sweet and otherwise predictable romantic plot with finesse. The Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra starrer banks heavily on the innocence and the freshness of the new age romance that Mathew has crafted carefully, without indulging in scenarios of lingering longing, hysteria or melodrama. In broad strokes, HTP is Abbas Tyrewal’s Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, with all its charm and frothy freshness.Read full review3.0

It is refreshing to watch something different being attempted in as rundown a genre as rom-com. It is refreshing to see the lead female protagonist get something real to do – maybe the technicalities are all over the place but at least she isn’t one of the two extremes tomboy/chirpy-bubbly or demure/shyness incarnate. It is a little disappointing to see her too, make her life about her man. But, then again, maybe that is what love does to you.Read full review2.5

It is an unpretentious little odd-couple romantic comedy. But the plot of Hasee Toh Phasee is a conundrum that takes some doing to crack. The film works primarily because the lead pair is in fine fettle, flowing along with the unstoppable tide of fluffiness while adding their own angularities to the proceedings.Read full review2.0

Batty girl meets sweet fellow. Is it cute? Yes, that first ‘mulaqaat’ is. And then? Then ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ wanders about figuring out whether it wants to be a contemporary rom-com, or a Gujarati-flavoured soap, or a 60s melodrama, or all of the above. This confusion confounds the film, fronted by the most talented female lead working in Bollywood right now, and makes her much less fun than she can be. That holds true for the film, too.Read full review2.0

Director Vinil Mathew’s debut feature film, Hasee Toh Phasee, is a smart and winning feint of that formula. It is an extremely likable balance between light and shade, the sadness in his beautiful lead woman sitting happily alongside her smiles. The sugar is pleasingly granular.Read full reviewNR

After a feast of Bollywood films that paint their leading ladies as paragons of virtue and perfection, there comes along Hasee Toh Phasee. It’s a story about Meeta (Parineeti Chopra), a pill-popping scientist with a mind-boggling IQ. Unlike the perfect Juhu Janes in Bollywood, she’s gawky, has quirks that include eating toothpaste and is a borderline kleptomaniac.Read full review

My review of Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) by bangreaayushi
jyothimathur, 9 years agoExcellent story with great work! The film ‘Hasee toh phasee’ reminds you of a very beautiful journey shared between two unfamiliar faces. The film’s direction is indeed splendid and very beautiful. The film’s plot goes in such a way:The film opens up with Meeta (Parineeti) and Nikhil (Siddharth Malhotra) getting introduced to each other in a wedding. Meeta is running from her place and Nikhil helps her in escaping from the place. The story is taken ahead with Karishma’s (Meeta’s sister) being engaged to Nikhil after seven years. It is during her wedding time, when Meeta returns to her place. Karishma meanwhile is a big actress whereas Nikhil is an owner of an event management company. Karishma handles Meeta’s responsibility to Nikhil and Nikhil takes her to his place. Meeta is a very simple yet very different girl. The film shows many situations where you’ll see great skills of Parineeti. She is the show stealer of the film and she makes you remind of the veteran actress ‘Rekha’. The film is continued ahead with the romantic scenes between Meeta and Nikhil. It is in the middle of the movie, Nikhil realizes his love for Meeta but unfortunately, both of them fail to confess. Further, the story also reveals that Meeta came back in India to get an amount of Rs 100 Crore from her father in order to save her laboratory from being auctioned. Nikhil helps Meeta in making the things work correct between her and her family. Now, the d-day comes when Meeta wants to get married to Nikhil and Nikhil too wants to get married to her. But it is always Karishma’s love that stops him to confess his love for Meeta. But, Meeta decides to get back to her place China. Will Nikhil marry Karishma? Or will he confess his love to Meeta? Will Meeta leave or stay? Want to know more? Go and give it a try! Well the film starts on a very promising note and its execution is very perfect. Produced under the banner of ‘Yashraj Chopra’ this film works well in all the aspects, whether story, dialogues, performances and songs. No doubt, Parineeti and Siddharth make a lovely couple in the film, but the film’s supporting cast also worked well to step in those characters. What make the film go outstanding are the songs that are touchy and have great affection in them. The singers too have worked hard. The director’s perfect direction made this film shine. Cinematography is excellent, script is spellbinding and what makes more to the film are the beautiful taglines like ‘fawaree footrahe hai’ and many more by Parineeti. There are many moments, which make you laugh. The outstanding chemistry between Parineeti and Siddharth gives you the out of the world feeling. The story has a strong script and so are the dialogues. One should definitely watch this film for both Parineeti and Siddharth. Its not a ‘to be missed’ film. Shooting of the film has been done in Mumbai. -
