Hindustan Hamara is a 1950 Indian Bollywood historical film released on 1950. The film is directed by Paul Zills.
THE PAST ========= Ram, the Indian peasant, remains unchanging through the ages-from the time Lord Shiva brought the world into being with his Cosmic Dance symbolising the endless cycle of creation, preservation, destruction. . Aryan horders pour into India, giving up their nomadic existence for a pastoral life... The noble Ram, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshman, become wanderers in the forest....From dancing with Radha on the banks of the Jumna, Lord Krishna turns to duty, putting heart into the hesitant warrior Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, reminding him that, "death is for the born, and birht is for the dead" . A cacalcade of history marches past: Out the revolt against Brahmanism arises Lord Budha, "walking the earth with patient, stinelss feet", preaching his message of love and mercy......The Emperor Ashoka, grandson of Chandragupta Maurya, turns from victory over the Kalingas to ways of peace, living to be one of the greatest Buddhists ever born With the rule of the Guptas, is born the Golden Age in which Aryan Culture, Sanskrit learning and Hindu glory reach their peack. Kalidas voice rises in goled melody to echo through the corridors of time. . Mother India turns invaders and refugees into dutiful sons. In the Moghul Emperor Akbar, espoused to the religious unity and welfare of his subjects, she produces one of the greatest Indians of all time. But the fanatic Aurangazeb later undeos his ancestors noble work. The Moghul Empire crumbles under the onslaught of the Maharatthas led by Shivaji, the Rajputs and the Sikhs. . Welcomed as traders on the hospitable Indian soil, the English and the French begin to fight for power in the middle of the eighteenth century, with a shifting pattern of Indian allies. Robert Clive throw aside his clerks pen for the sword, and wins the British domain over India. The Indian people lose their freedom. . In 1885 arises the Indian National Congress to fight for Indias Indepndence. Under Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the battle for freedom is at last won. In the moment of victory, he who raised his countrymen "out of dust and made them into men", dies the death of martyr. But his message of love and universal brotherhood remains to encourage and inspire humanity through the ages. . THE PRESENT =========== Ram, the farmer, ploughs his land. He is the same today as he was six thousand years ago. . Toil from dawn to dusk is the lot of Ram, his wife Ganga and their son Lakshman. Times are changing and the pattern of his life is changing, too for the better. . Drought, the Indian peasants worst enemy, drives Ramss brother, Bala, to the Big City, to earn his living. There he learns to champion the cause of his fellow workers. . Bank in Ramus village, the Zamindar, Mahadev, relic of a species fast dying out, oppresses the peasantry. His lustful eye rests on the widow Miras daughter Usha, whose heart is given to Bala. The crops fail. Mahadev remains unmoved. . To the rescue of the peasants comes Shikh Sahib, a social worker. He shows them a way out of their misery-co-oprative farming. He and Munshiji win over the peasants to this plan, even the reluctant and indolent Gopal wh has mortaged Miras land to Mahadev. . Sheikh Sahib takes Ram to Bombay to raise a loan from Chhotulal, a humane captialist, in order to relieve the mortage land. . When Ram attempts to take Bala back the farm, the younger brother refuses to return. "There is work to be done here, in the Big City", he explains; "we workers have to fight for our rights even if we have to suffer while doing so. Our India need men like you-farmers to improve our land; but she also needs workers such as I. My place is here in the Big City. . Co-operative farming brings prosperity to the villagers. The age-old boundaries fall....Unfettered all go forward with joyful hearts.... Their labours proper.....The land has linked young and old, united in one common cause. . A letter arrives from Bala, one day. Its opened with eager hands. He has tried many jobs and has last risedn to be a foreman in the Iron Steel Works at Jamshedpur. He is coming home on leave. . Who is the happiest of all? Usha, of course. The shenai wails its song of joy as the blushing bridegroom, Bala is led to the wedding pandal to be married to the fair Usha. Merriment reigns surpeme. Conspicous among the revewwlers, are Munshiji, Gapoo the village gosip the widow Mira, Gopal, young Lakhsman, Ram and his wife Ganga-children of the soil on whose patient back rests the prosperity of our India.
