Actor Paoli had once described a class of directors who are known as the Kartik Ghataks of Tollywood. They believe in trying to be a Ritwik Ghatak but end up making films that neither win awards nor make money. In many ways, Prosenjit Chatterjee’s character in Houseful is the quintessential Kartik Ghatak who thinks he has his own cinematic language though his craft doesn’t convince either his illusory audience or his wife, bitterly struggling in a crumbling marriage.
