I Hate Luv Storys Movie Reviews

The first thing that attracts you to I HATE LUV STORYS is its title. Let's face it, we adore love stories... at least I do. We idolise the characters decades after the movies have come and gone. The songs that come on our lips instantly while playing a game of antakshri are romantic songs as well. In fact, the biggest moneyspinners, let's face it, have been love stories, right? So how can we 'hate' a love story?

First things first. Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor make an interesting pair. After the Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif coupling, this seems to be the most refreshing jodi that's jaunting and jiving on screen. Nice chemistry. Nice tu-tu-main-main (sparring). Nice physical compatibility. And a well-balanced emotional quotient. Kudos to the two of them to carry forth a film which once again doesn't really have anything to boast about

Chemistry is a phenomenal element. Its beguiling mystique and extraordinary body is all the more fascinating when it unfolds through a rare, fruitful connection between two never-before-seen-together artists on celluloid. And then, with every subsequent film, it flowers into a handsome picture of larger-than-life togetherness, which the audience loves to absorb in every phase and capacity. I Hate Luv Storys starts with a self amused voiceover telling us dumb viewers how all Bollywood films have pretty much the same love story, and then promptly proceeds to show us yet another familiar mushy tale, and not too freshly presented either. The film starts with an adoloscent premise which is pure pop-korn, and after a series of predictable set-ups, peaks at pre-puberty IQ levels. The cast of characters remain caricaturish cardboard cut-outs

Something fresh, youthful and full of energy is always interesting to watch on screen. And when it comes in the form of a love story, it's even better. Debutant director Punit Malhotra tries to capture all of that in his first offering, I Hate Luv Storys. The production values are just what you'd expect from a Karan Johar film: the lead pair is appealing, and the music is vibrant. You wish the director hadn't just been content with all that

A considerable portion in the second half of I Hate LUV Storys is shot in New Zealand. A considerable portion in the second half of Dil Chahta Hai was shot in Australia. And as far (or close) is New Zealand from Australia on the global map, so is the core plot of I Hate LUV Storys from the entire Aamir Khan-Preity Zinta romance track in Dil Chahta Hai. While Simran, the heroine of I hate Luv Storys may give up perfection to find solace in imperfection, we as viewers refuse to settle for anything less than perfect. Therefore, Punit Malhotra's debut film that has the Dharma Productions stamp on it will find few takers. Indian audience loves Love Stories just as much as their counterparts in the west do. But the trouble is that filmmakers abroad still end up cashing on this done to death

I Hate Luv Storys is a definite winner. City & multiplex audience and the youngsters will especially luv this luv ...
