Jai Bharat is a 1936 Indian Bollywood costume film released on 1936. The film is directed by Homi Wadia.
The wicked minister AJIT SINGH conspires with his lieultenat BIHARI to remove from his path the BOY PRINCE, but the faithful General ASHRAF KHAN comes up at the psychological moment, saves the prince and hands him over to Captain RANJIT, who takes the prince on his horse PUNJAB- KA-BETA and flees, while Ustad ABDUL HAQ fights with the men of Ajit Singh. . The PRINCESS is afflicted on account of the disappearance of her brother Ajit Singh asked her to marry him, but she spurns him and creates an enemy in this wicked minister. . The Ustad is teaching the prince the use of Lathi in the jungle. MANGOO and CHANGOO, harassed by the ministers come up there in their motor car which is drawn by two donkeys (instead of Petrol). They see the prince and attack the Ustad, who gives them a taste of his quality with his formidable Lathi and takes them both to Captain Ranjit. They realise their blunder and befriend the prince. . Ranjits abode is raided by Bihari and just as he is about to strike the fatal blow, at the boy prince, the Wonder-Horse PUNJAB-KA-BETA comes up and carries the fainted prince to Ranjit. The Ustad fights with Ajits men and ultimately pushes them into a ditch with the help of Mangoo and Changoo; while Ranjit, with the boy prince on his horse, jumps over an abyss and escapes. He leaves the prince in Ustads care and proceeds to assist Genral Ashraf khan. . Ajit removes General Ashraf Khan from his way on a charge of attempted murder of the prince and induces the puppet king to sentence him to imprisonemnt for life. The entire army gives the last salute to their brave General. Ajit flares up and sentences Ranjit to death. The army sings the National Song as a befitting reply to the foolish command of the minister. . PUNJAB-KA-BETA bolts and comes up to the fort where Ranjit is awaiting his sentence of death. Ajit asks Ranjit what his last wish is Ranjit says that he wiches to give the order of his death himself. Ajit grants this desire. Ranjit flees on his horse and going straight to the private chmber of the princess conceals himself in a cupboard. Ajit arrives there and tells the princess that Ranjit is the kidnapper of the prince which statement the princess belives and shows Ajit the hiding place of Ranjit. Before Ajit can strike, Ranjit attacks him and after dressing himself in the ministers clothes, leaves with Ajit men He takes them in to the jungle and gives them befitting punishment with the help of Punjab-Ka-Beta. . At GUNVANTIS house preparations are being made to welcome the princess Taking Gunvanti into his confidence. Ranjit manages to be present there in the role of an ordinary servant. . Ajit now proclaims to the whole kingdom that the King has gone mad and confines him in the prison as a lunatic. . Next, Bihari and his men set fire to the hut in which the prince is hidden (Ustad) comes there and saves the prince from being burnt alive fighting the soldiers single-handed. . Ranjit, coming up, finds that the princes boat is caught in a whirlpool. He dives and by hanging himself head downwards on the branch of a tree manages to pick up the drowning prince. As Bihari and his men clase Ranjit, Punjab-Ka-Beta pulls up Ranjit and the prince by menas of a rope and escorts them to safety. A meeting is held in the village and social differences are being discussed, when a sage arrives and preaches the doctrine of UNITY. He convinces the people of the futility communal feuds and the utility of unity. There and then the people take the solem vow to end the rule of tyanny for which Ajit is nototious. . Ranjit, in the garb of a syce, accopanies the princess into the jungle along with the horse Punjab-Ka-Beta. He somehow annoys the princess. The princess while going away from him in anger, trips over something and falls. She is hurt and swoons away. Ranjit carries her to the lake near-by and brings her to consciousness. When she comes to, she hears Ranjit singing a love song. She is stirred by the song and the charm of his voice. Just at that moment Ajit happens to come there. Ranjit gives him a thrashing and scoots, thanks to the timely help of Punjab- Ka-Beta. . Ranjit goes to the chamber of the princess in Gunvantis house. He is talking to her when Ajit reaches there. A terrific fight ensues. . Accrding to the instructions of Ranjit the Ustadaccompanied by the prince goes to the place where Ajit has kept the king and the general. . Queer incidents and breath-taking situations arise thereafter and it is only by seeing them on the Silver Screen that the entire romance of the two loving hearts can be unfolded.
