Janala 2011

Janala is a 2011 Indian Bengali drama film released on Feb 25, 2011. The film is directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

Janala is the journey of a solitary man against the wrath of circumstances when he decides to pursue his little impulsive dream. An accidental visit to his school in Jhumurpur village prompts Bimal to believe that it is his turn to give back to his alma mater. He begins with trying to reconstruct the broken window of his favourite corner classroom, and decides to take the help of the local moneylender. But when the moneylender fails to pay him the promised sum, Bimal discreetly uses the money that his fiancée Meera had been saving for their soon-to-born child. But when he reaches his school with the window, the authorities reject it. Now begins a journey, as the precious window has no takers. By the end, Bimal has lost his job, his wife and his unborn child - everything for a window nobody wants.

Bimal and Meera are an urban couple though Bimal works in Purulia and Meera works in a call centre in Kolkata.An accidental visit to his old school which no longer exists makes him decide that he should do something for his alma mater.He decides to reconstruct a window through which he used to look outside and day dream. He asks the local moneylender for money, but when he doesn’t get it, he spends the money which Meera had wanted to save for their yet to be child and had taken a loan. The school authorities refuse to let him fit the window and he has to go away. Ultimately his efforts are in waste and when Meera comes to know that he has spent the money, she leaves him.

Janala tells the story about a man, Bimal, who decides to give a little back to his old school despite the fact he has very little money himself. As a child Bimal had a favourite corner classroom where he used to sit and daydream out of a broken window, and so when he finds himself back in his old school he feels compelled to replace the window. Bimal ends up using his fiancee Meera's savings - money she put aside for the child they're expecting - without telling her. Unexpectedly when he presents the window to the authorities it is rejected and matters only get worse when Meera discovers what Bimal has done as she leaves him.
