Jeewan Naiya is a 1936 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1936. The film is directed by Franz Osten.
RADHEY, a dancing girl, anxious to shield her daughter from the shame and dishonour of her calling, hands the child over to a Social Worker, Mathuradass. He adopts the babe and brings her up as his very own. . The child, Latika, grows into a beautiful and noble woman. Ranjit, a rich and cultured youth, falls in love with her and their marriage is arranged. . Three days before the wedding, Mathuradass, not being able to deny the last wish of Latas dying mother, takes her to see her. At her mothers death-bed Latika learns the truth about her birth. . Chand, a throughly repulsive individual, who lived on the earining of his paramour. Sona, sees Latika. He plots with his rich patron. Ramlal to lure the unsuspecting Latika into his clutches. . A faked massage is sent to Latika informing her that her mother is still hovering between life and death and is sobbing her heart cut for another glimpse of her daughter. But she was already dead, and as the poor girl comes to see her. Chand and his gang pounce upon her and carry her off to a lonely Garden House. . Chands paramour, Sona ina fit of jealousy, helps Latas servant with the address of the Garden House. He carries the news of Latas abduction to Ranjit. . At considerable danger to himself. Ranjit forces his way into the lonely Garden House and rescues Latiks, and her abductors escape before the arrival of the Police. . The idea of holding any sevret from Ranjit being ,ost repugnant to Lata, she insists upon telling him all about her birth. Mathuradass pleacs for caution. He has already lied to Ranjit about Radhey. He had told him that she was Latas nurse. . "Tell him all you want to say after the wedding." Mathuradass begs poor Lata, much against her wish ia compelled to remain silent. . The marriage, as arranged, takes place and Chand, the arch-villain steps and with him the serpent of misery and suspicion into Latas garden of happiness. . He giins admittance to the grand reception, Ranjit is giving in honour of his bride. He blackmails Latika-threatens to diclose the secret of her birth to her husband to the guests, to all. He works upon her fears that the knowledge that she was adancing girls daughter, would lead to her husband ebing excommunicared. . To save the husband she treasured, Latika puchases Chands silence by handing him over a valuable necklace-a precious family heirloo, and a gift from Ranjit. . Chand takes the necklace to a jeweller. The latter telephones to Ranjit fro caofirmation before closing the deal. . Ranjit, in all innocence and in perfect good faith, declares that the necklace was stolen and the letter of authority signed by Latika Devi was a forgery. . The jeweller sends for the police and Chand is placed under arrest-in spite of his protests. . The police takes Chand to Ranjits home for enquiries-the news spreads like wild fire causing a tremendous sensation amongst the guests. . Latika cnfesses having given the necklace and the latter of authority to Chand. She admits, in the presence of all, that she is the daughter of Radhey, the dancing girl. . Ranjit discards Latika and vows never to see her again. That her mother was a dancing girl meant ncthing to him but the fact that she joined hands with a blackmailer and lied to him shook Ranjit faith in her. . An outcaste from her husbands home. Lata returns to nurse him when he goes blind, temporarily, as the result of an explosion. . Struck by her resemblance to the wife he still loves but will not cherish. Ranjit is cheated into the old happiness by this new Nurse. But the deception did not last for long and Ranjit soon finds out that his Nurse and Latika are one and the same person. The discovery brings Ranjit supreme happiness. But it brings no joy to Latika. She still thinks that her husband has falledn in love with Latika, the nurse. . Dawns the day when Ranjits eye bandages are removed and his sight completely restored. Little suspecting that her husband knows who she really is, Lata dogged by misfortune after misfortune to the crowning bitterness of forfeited love and ruined happiness, decides to end her life with a cup of poison. . .
