Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Joydeb (1933)
Jaideb was born in Kendubilwa village of Birbhum in the early twelfth century. Taranath Mukherjee was a usurer and a fake tantrik. He became anti-vaishnav. Jaideb's servant and disciple Sanatan was of lower caste and was untouchable. Sanatan and his wife Kamala followed Jaideb blindly. One day Taranath set fire in Jaideb's house. Jaideb was away that time. Sanatan and Kamala tried to save some valuable books but as they were untouchable they could not save Lord Shyam Sundar. They were not allowed to touch the image of the deity. Next morning Jaideb came and found his house was burnt into ashes. Sanatan and Kamala expressed their inability to save Lord Shyam Sundar. Jaideb assumed them that lord was indestructible, the image of the deity was found in ashes. Jaideb left Kendubilwa with the deity. Sanatan and kamala also followed him. They came to Nilachal. Sudeb Mitra of Brahman Beria had promised to lord Jagannath that if he is blessed with a daughter he would dedicate her to the service of the lord's temple. A daughter was born and after fifteen years lord Jagannath ordered Sudeb to get her daughter Padmabati married to his disciple Jaideb. Saint Jaideb became a family man. Desireless Jaideb put her head on Padmabati's feet and wrote "dehi padapallabmudaram." Poet Jaideb left for Gaur leaving Padmabati in Kenduli. When Jaideb returned he learnt that Padmabati was taken away by dacoits. Actually Taranath was believed those dacoits. But Padmabati was able to flee away from there. Padmabati was scared enough but Jaideb took her to his arms.
