Jungle Princess 1942

Jungle Princess is a 1942 Indian Bollywood action film released on 1942. The film is directed by Homi Wadia.
Interviewed in 1990, Fearless Nadia recalled that one day in 1940, J.B.H. Wadia drove her to a circus near the studio and showed her the lions and tigers theat she would be working with in her next film. "When I saw them I was terrified and refused to do the film. Then as we were leaving I saw a little girl barely ten, entering the lion,s cage to feed the beasts. I thought to myself If she can do it then why cant I? So I plucked up courage and agreed to make the film !" . Based on an adaptation of " Tarzan of the Apes", Nadia play the role of Maya, a shipwrecked orphan who was brought up in a remote jungle island by a pride of lions. One day she encounters an exploration party who have come to find her and bring her back to civilization. The plot thickens when the tribe of cannibals led by a blood-thirsty Queen (Radha Rani), try to sabotage the exploration. Maya and the lions save the day. . "Jungle princess" was one of Waida Movietones last big-budget stunt films and also one of Fearless Nadias greatest achivements. Her astonishing scenes with the lions as also her controversial skimpy costumes created a stir at the time of the films release. The film is outright entertainment and is noted for its big sets and amazing climax scene where where a tidal a tidal wave and typhoon engulf the island. This was created by the then "new kid on the block" Babubhai Mistry who in later years became Indias leading special effects master. A veritable feast for the young at heart.
