Kumkum is a 1940 Indian Bengali drama,family film released on 1940. The film is directed by Madhu Bose, music composed by Timir Baran Bhattacharya.

Surya Sarkar was a fine gentleman, simple and generous. He lived with his devoted wife and his little beautiful daughter Kumkum, with a mission to save the country. Finally he became a political prisoner. He enthuased ? his friend Jagadish Chandra with bank cheque, relevant papers and the manuscript of play "Mahakudha" along with his wife and daughter. One day suddenly he recieved the news of his wife's impending death. Absconding from the jail, he went straight home to see his wife dead with his daughter crying bitterly. The run away convict Surya Sarkar went out in quest of the fugitive friend Jagadishnwith his daughter. After a long time, one day Surya Sarkar recognised the rich man Jagadish. He went to see his address but Jagadish did not entertain him. On the contary he threatened him that he will complain to the police. Surya came back to his slum with a heavy mind. Jagadish's only son Chandan and his friend Pradip ran an organisation named 'Yuba Sangha'. Their mission was to serve poor people. Pradip and Chandan one day went to the slum and there they met Kumkum. Chandan fell in love with her at the very first sight. Gradually Chandan lost himself in her love. Newspaper flashed the news of their marriage. Jagadish was in predicament, What could he do? He called Pradip to suggest if he had any respectable person known to him, who was to marry Chandan. It was just an eye wash for the society. Jagadish wanted to play a game. Pradip agreed to make this arrangement. Surya Sarkar knew that Chandan was Jagadish's son. But he did niot say anything because of taking revenge. The girl whom Pradip bought was none other than Kumkum. Jagadish did not recognise Kumkum. Kumkum wanted to be their wife in order to exploit their wealth to help the poor. Chandan and Kumkum were united. Kumkum was successful in her mission and also to recover her father's manuscript from the almirah of Jagadish. After their marriage, a woman appeared named Shipra who was previously very intimate with Chandan. Gradually there came a change in Kumkum's mind . She wanted to concentrate on her husband and her family. Kumkum did not like Shipra's presense. Sometimes Shipra and Kumku misunderstood each other. Atlast Kumkum and Chandan started their new journey of life with love and emotions.
