Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India is a 2001 Indian Bollywood drama film released on Jun 15, 2001. The film is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, produced by Aamir Khan under banner named Aamir Khan Productions, music composed by A. R. Rahman.

The story starts with Bhuvan (played by Aamir khan). He is a local farmer who lives in Champaner along with the other villagers. Since, this story is set into the era of British period, so the film also features Britishers. Now, the story is further preceded with the story that the villagers in India are struggling to get a good harvest because they are depended on the monsoon. To create further complications, the British government also adds heavy taxes on these farmers. These villagers are tortured by the British army captain, who is in command of Chamapner. He is a dictator and a sadist. He then gives the challenge to the villagers that there will be a cricket match between them and the villagers. If the villagers loose, then will be paying double the tax, and if the Britishers loose, they would leave the village and that their taxes will be denied. Bhuvan takes the challenge, along with Gauri (played by Gracy Singh). She is his lady love, and begins his preparations for the cricket match. But, they are not aware of the cricket rules. They are helped by the captain’s sister who sees to it that the justice should be given to them. The end is shown how the villagers win.
