Bollywood continues to borrow from films of yore. We rehash love stories tirelessly, refurbishing the age-old premise to suit the present-day spectators. LUV U SONIYO, directed by Joe Rajan, too follows the same routine we are so accustomed to witnessing. Mark Braganza (Tanuj) is a happy-go-lucky youngster who loves his family, friends and pretty much everyone. Defying Bollywood's stereotype, that popular kids in college are seldom nice, Marky is the good guy. Mark (Tanuj Virwani) and Soniyo (Neha) are the regular run of the mill lovers. He's the cool dude who wakes up in the morning, dresses up goes to college and does whatsoever is required to play to his celluloid image. She is the coy demure Punjabi girl who has to eventually fall in love with Mark not before facing family and other problems! Of course the story can't be linear, hence we get a twist in the tale with Soniyo has to marry an army man

What can one possibly say about a film that is so unidirectional that you get tired of correctly predicting what the next scene will be? It’s like driving on a familiar highway — minus the thrill. A love story set in destiny but making itself apparent in a college couldn’t get cheesier than this. Almost every single frame reeks of the been-there-seen-that feel. Save the few moments of laughter, there is hardly anything to look forward to with glee

On the whole, Luv U Soniyo is a half-hearted attempt which fails to strike a chord in people’s hearts. At the box-office, it will go completely unnoticed and its poor start will only add to its terrible tale of woes.

The journey here is absolutely bereft of drama, excitement, surprise and ultimate satisfaction. One doesn`t know if debutant director Joe Rajan meant the central romance to be so linear, languorous and shockproof. But that`s the way it is.
