MAYABAZAAR: - An ensemble of three short stories (Rhythms of absence)
Smriti: A story of desire loneliness and memories
Smriti is a story of a young widow Kuhu who is engulfed by the memories of her dead husband. So is the power of this obsession that whenever she takes in any lover , that man slowly changing into her ex-husband. The story is unveiled by Nishit to one of his lady friends while they met in a bar. It is a story of memories and loneliness of Kuhu.
Satwa: A story of love and insanity
Dhritin is a painter who lives in a big house with his step mother. In his daily clockwork of routines which is the same everyday, his ailing mother asks him to get married to the girl of their choice. Dhritin often dreams of a girl whom he has never seen. His ‘would be paramour’ Suchorita want to take him aboard but Dhritin refuses to go, his logic being if he goes away from his roots he cannot paint and if he cannot paint he won’t live. While watching a set of photos on old Calcutta clicked by his friend Shomak, he sees the photo of the girl who frequents him in his dream. When Dhritin asked Shomak , he says it is his sister Bonolata who stays far away. Dhritin goes to Shomak’s country house in Nijhumpur where the caretaker Kali Da tells him about Bonolata who got drowned in the pond. Dhritin feels the presence of Bonolata in the house and slowly starts getting obsessed with her. His obsession grows to such an extent that one day he creates her out of thin air. Dhritin starts living with that created images of Bonolata.
Bhabishyat: A journey into the world of belief and disbelief
Mahesh is a professor of mathematics and Harinath is a professor of philosophy. Mahesh Believes in ‘there isn’t’ and Harinath believes in ‘there is’. Mahesh is an atheist while Harinath is a believer. The argument goes on through various incidents, which almost merges with absurdity which leads them to an unreal zone where they come face to face with the absolute truth of life, which is death.
