Kamal after his graduation went to Kolkata for higher studies in medicine with help from his headmaster. In return his mother promised the headmaster that she would give the marrige of her son with his daughter Kusum. In the meanwhile the zamindar of the village saw Kusum and sought to make Kusum his daughter-in-law. The headmaster's wife accepted the proposal and Kusum got married to him, Devkumar but he did not accept her as his wife as he loved another girl. On the other hand Kamal's mother died and Kamal went back to Kolkata where he treated Latabai who felll in love with him. Some more complications arose between Latabai and Kamal, but at the end all complications got sorted out and Kamal and Latabai led a happy life.
