Forget laughter, the frequent use of in-house jokes and one-liners that are staples with actors like Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jafferi, who have built their personalities around comic repartee, fall flat in the film because they are so amateurish.

If at all the movie is tolerable, even though it gets boring in the second half, it is thanks to Arshad Warsi’s comic timing. Just as we have ‘keep your brains behind’ action/thriller flicks with super stars, this one too falls in that category, but with a difference. At least, you don’t leave the theatre fuming!

JBC is an over-the-top and loud slapstick comedy that you have to be in a large group and a really giggly mood to enjoy. It’s often – by design – occasionally so crass and silly that it knowingly goes for the “it’s so bad it’s good” brand of humour.

What could have been a genuinely funny film with spoofs ends up being a nonsensical slapstick comedy.

Debut director Samir Tewari’s Mr. Joe B. Carvalho is not as funny as its title. It’s impossible to endure a below-par film for just a couple of funny moments. Too bad, really. It would have been wonderful to begin the New Year with a crackling comedy.

At the point when Arshad got into a punching match with an unborn baby in its mother’s tummy, I decided nothing can save this movie.

With very little entertainment offered at the price of its ticket, Mr Joe B Carvalho is a feeble attempt that fails to provide any comic relief.

Watch this movie only if for you anything passes in the name of ‘comedy’. The film deserves the one star it got for the bravery the makers of this film showed while making it.

Nobody has clearly told the makers of Mr Joe B Carvalho that it is in extremely bad taste to poke fun at disability. This film should have been denied a censor certificate on that ground alone. Be warned. Jo bhi karlo but stay well clear of Mr Joe B Carvalho if you value your money – and sanity.

I’ve been thinking of one nice thing to say about this film, which I suspect was made because its title can be read as ‘Jo Bhi Karvalo’. Funny much? Sadly, not at all.

There have been some bizarre, irreverent films that were also great fun. But those films have had some brilliant thinking gone into it. This one is surely not it. Avoid it.

…despite having actors like Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaffrey and Soha Ali Khan Mr Joe B Carvalho fails miserably and is devoid of any reason for one to watch this film. Best avoided.

…that annoying friend who won’t stop forcing those unbearable PJs on you as you try to laugh politely while one eye seeks an emergency exit. At the end of the film, you slip off your seat, onto your knees and beg Mr Joe B Carvalho — please ab maar daalo.

Styled as somewhat of a surreal comedy, Tewari’s film has some bizarre situations that are impossible to make sense of or make us laugh.

There is one truly bright spark in the film. Jaffrey’s performance brings back memories of the time he turned a VJing gig into a variety show with Timex Timepass.
