The director has followed the story right from the beginning and there is no diversion from the original. Just like the original, there is also an earthquake which takes place in 1976 in Samastipur (in the original, the Tangshan Earthquake was known) and shatters a family of four-a man, his wife, his son and his daughter. The man expires in the earthquake and the wife has to choose between one of her children as both of them are buried under the rubble. She takes the call and the son survives, the daughter manages to hear the mother’s voice and yet survives without the mother knowing so. The daughter is later adopted by a Muslim family from Kolkata and they dote on her. The daughter is forever haunted by her mother’s decision. She is also a single mother now. Her brother, the simpleton, meanwhile has got married and has a child as several years have passed . Now it is 2012 and a tragic accident brings the brother and sister together. The brother takes the sister to the mother and they are reunited.
