Nartaki is a 1963 Indian Bollywood romance film released on Jan 01, 1963. The film is directed by Nitin Bose. NARTAKEE is a poignant story of a girl Laxmi persecuted and ostracized by the society for no fault of hers except that the Fate conspired against her to place her in the circumstances not acceptable to the "virtuous" society. Laxmi was brought up under the shadow of Ram-Pyari who tries her best to prevent Laxmi from seeing the light of the day. Laxmi finds herself incompatible with the environments prevailing there and revolts against that order to educate herself to get out of that mire to lead a good and respectable life being denied to her. Her urges are quite human but Ram Pyari because of her own selfish ends puts impediments between her and her goal. . The Providence comes to her help and sends a man in the form of Nirmal in her life. Nirmal is professor in a local college founded by Seth Jamnadas who did everything with a view of material gain. Nirmal is an ideal young man dedicated to his profession.He is neither a reformer nor leader. but as a human being he feels that she too has has a right to aspire and attain a respectable position in the Society He espouses her cause and begins to teach her. His determination and character instill in her a courage to fight against the obscurants for her own existence. This was something blasphemous. Nirmals resolution to give Laxmi a status in the society brings him in clash with the "apostles" of the society. He is suspended from his service and is charged before the managing committee of the college by the founder of the college Seth Jamanadas. On the other side Ram Pyari with her henchmen is thirsty for his blood for he deprived her of her gold mine. . The forces of vice and virture are pitted against each other. Nirmal throws his gauntlet before the society and demands:- . "What right the society has to trample upon a life which it cannot give back"? . "What right have we to adjudge a person without knowing his or her guilt"? "Arent we criminals ourselves if we persecute an innocent"? .
