Neelofar is a 1957 Indian Bollywood costume drama, costume film released on Jan 01, 1957. The film is directed by P. N. Arora.
The story of Neelofer is based on one of fantasies from "The Arabian Nights". . A caravan of Basra is looted within the boundaries of Baghdad. During the struggle of the thief of the caravan is mortally wounded. His son Haroon determined to avenge his fathers death heads for Baghdad. . While wandering the streets of Baghdad he comes to a junk shop owned by one named Khakan. Incidentally he comes across sword in the shop which possesses the magic powers of making its owner a great conquerer It is at this time that the princess Neelofer of Baghdad also visits the same shop in disguise. This is their first meeting. . Haroon in the pursuit of his objective to bring the murderers of his father to justice seeks an audience with the grand Vazir of Baghdad. While he leaves his horse outside the Grand Vazirs place, a naughty boy jumps on Haroons horse and gallops away. Haroon rushes after him on another horse and on catching up with him, is amazed to find that the beautiful princess Neelofer, who loves the streets of Baghdad more than the Royal palace. . Inspite of numerous restrictions imposed on her by her father, the King, and the Grand Vazir, her sympathy for the poor and downtrodden every time draws her outside the palace walls. To put a stop to this, although actually with an aim to capture the throne the Grand Vazir tries to marry his brother Hadi to the princess. He would managed to get the consent of her father, had the princess not intervened and declared that she would marry only the gallant man who would win her in an open joust, happy that it can only be Haroon with his magic sword whom she loves and hopes to marry. . However, the lady luck is not very co-operative. Through her sheer innocence the princess tells the secret of the sword to her pet attendent Dilruba, who in turn tells to Hadi. Hadi and the Grand Vazir steal the magic sword from the possession of Haroon replacing it with a fake one. The result is obvious. Haroon loses in the joust but when he comes to know the trick played on him he suspects Neelofer for the conspiracy. Haroon goes to the palace, only to witness the preparations of the Royal marriage between Neelofer and Hadi. . Dilruba whose dreams of marrying Hadi are now shattered, tells Haroon of Neelofers innocence. Haroon soon wants to amend the mistake and tries to releive the princess from the clutches of Hadi. Fight ensues and Haroon is again captured. The king hears of the Vazirs plan to kill him and fram the murder on Haroon, but he too late to do anything as he is soon stabbed by the Grand Vazir, Haroon manages to escape with Neelofer from the palace. Soldiers pursue the couple but they are ultimately convinced of couples death when their clothes are found on the bank of the river.
