Parineeta revolves around the romantic life of a lovely couple Lolita (Balan) and Shekar (Khan) gets disturbed by the arrival of another man which leads to many misunderstandings between the two.
It is based in the city of Kolkata in 1962. The exotic backdrop serves as the perfect locale for the tender and immortal love story about to unfold. A young girl Lolita (Vidya Balan), orphaned at an early age, is sent to live with her uncle's family, where destiny introduces her to a young boy, Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan) a budding musician, the son of an affluent businessman. Together, through childhood and adolescence, Shekhar and Lolita share their joys and sorrows, fond memories and bitter sweet experiences. Unknown to them, a relationship of deep friendship and trust develops. It takes the arrival of an outsider, Girish (Sanjay Dutt), for them to discover their feelings for each other.
