Poonam Ki Raat is a 1965 Indian Bollywood romance, suspense, thriller film released on Jan 01, 1965. The film is directed by Kishore Sahu.

Prakash Gupta (Manoj Kumar) visits the haveli of his rich class mate Chander away from Mumbai. He falls in love with his sister (Kumud Chuggani). While on the way to the haveli, he hears in a small restaraunt that the haveli is haunted due to murder of a tawaif Rani on full moon. Chander's father Lalaji is on his death bed. Lalaji's sister (Leela Mishra), daughter (Shashikala), elder son Ramesh are waiting for Lalaji's death. Outsiders who can have a stake in the property are also guessing as to who will get what- doctor, Mukta, Mukta's father, Rajendra Nath etc.

A full time nurse looks after Lalaji who has been appointed by the doctor. The nurse is murdered on full moon (poonam ki raat). Prakash is on the look out for Rani as he sees her following him in his room, followed by a black cat. Peter (Prem Chopra) also adds suspense.

Chanda is rushing to his home-town from Bombay to be at the beside of his long-ailing father, Lala Baijnath, whose illness has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. Chandans college friend, Prakash Gupta, is accompanying him. . Reaching the outstrikes of the town late in the night, their jeep pull up a t cigeratte shop where they buy cigerattes. Here at the shop Prakash is shocked to learn that the mansion he is visiting is haunted that Chandans father, Lala Bahinath, is suspected by the town of having murdered a beautiful young woman quite some years back; and the spirit of the murdered woman, Rani haunts this mansion to this day Prakash is curious as well as intrigued. . Lala Baijinaths is a rambling mansion-as most ancient mansions belonging to the idle rich are - with several empty rooms and long creepy corridors, winding staircases and queer temperaments. . Prakash meets Chandans younger sister Jyoti, and almost instantly they drawn to each other. Then he meets Chandans other sister, Nandini and finds her no less attractive. . But before a triangle acquires any dimensions, the unexpected happens. Prakash, as the dead of the night, begins to hear deep soulful wails and sweet hummings of a womans voice; and soon one day he actally beholds the bewitching form, singing away the rapturous linesh in the dwindling full moon night.....and from that heavenly moment it is no longer the sweet Jyoti or the ravishing Nandini who captivates his heart, but the dazzling charms of the elusive spirit - Rani. . And now the ailing Lalajis nurse has been murdered; and it seesm as though the next victim is going to be Lalaji himself ! . Who has killed the nurse ? Who is now should want to do Lalji to death and for what earthly reason ? Is it the smart family doctor? Is the silent Chandan, his complaining mother, his calculating elder brother or his Scheming sister-in-law?
