"It is a test of your love for me- I wish to see how quickly and how far you are able to go away me." These paradoxical words were addressed by an actress to her husband. It was not love that prompted them; but sheer cold-hearted deception. She was trying to free herself from the meshes of her past, from the wretched convict and absconder who had so dramatically and unpleasantly butted himself into her life her life once agian. It was indeed a critical moment for her-she was on the brink of her biggest conquest-a love-lorn and affluent Rai Bahadurs devoted and hearbroken wife and the trio of comely and affectionate daughters who shared their mothers agony. . For days the girls watched the tears and tribulations of the mother in grief-then they dicided to act. They set out to seek their father and lure him away from the deadly spell cast by his enchantress. Cupid must have laughed at the naivete of their adventure; for hardly had they started when Rekha, the eldest, was hit by his Golden Arrow and fell to the charm and chivalry of a playwright Bahadur welcimed the intruders with frowns, saw in them a triple menace to dreams of success and riches. The very next day their tutored and enraged father asked them to quit the house and hie to the village. . The girls were taken aback but eventually turned the tables on their wily opponent. With the aid of the playwright who played the role of a doctor cleverly, Rekha managed to feign illness. How could Rai Bahadur although steeped in revelry, be so callous as to turn out an ailing daughter? The little conspirators stayed. . The second round however, went to the vamp. She pulled the strings so craftily, the three innocts were taken in and themselves gave away their girlish game.
