Rituparna, an young widow, is a part time teacher and a office club actress. Her father, a retired man who runs a grocery in the local area has lost all his savings in a chit fund. Rituparna is the main earning member of her family, which comprises her mother,younger sister and this sick old man, her father. She acts and dreams to becomes a famous actress. Everyday she meets a lot of actors and directors. Some of them are from group theatres, who are intellectual and dream big, some are very ordinary, and only want to act in the annual office function. In an office club, she meets Santanu, an young clerk who loves theatre. Santanu shows respectful interest to her and advices her to join Arijit Mitra's group "Ranganama" but Riutparna can not decide because at the same time her father shows symptoms of cancer a lot of tests need to be conducted. She needs money which she cannot arrange and her father dies. Arijit Mitra offers her to join serious theatre, in their group, but Rituparna get's depressed when she hears rumours about her and her former lover, Prabir. At last, she decides to act and comes to Arijit where she meets Mrinal Majumdar, a famous author. She starts her new career to establish herself as an artist. "Sanghat" is stageed and she gets everyone's appreciation, including all the newspapers. Show goes on and she comes close to Arijit. Once while returning from Arijit's house, she meets with an accident and gets handicapped. Arijit, a self-centred man, decides to replace Rituparna by another actress. Santanu, Mrinal and others members of Ranganama protest and they make a new group "Jiban". They offer Rituparna the lead role in their new show "Amrita" and also the responsibility of the director. Rituparna knows that another struggle is beginning but she is prepared to take all the challenges of life.
