Sarala 1936

Sarala is a 1936 Indian Bengali drama,family film released on 1936. The film is directed by Charu Roy.

Sashibhusan who lives in the village of Hawkhali is quite well off. He lives with his younger brother Bidhubhusan, his wife Pramoda, son Bipin , brothers wife Sarala and his younger brother's only son Gopal. Shyama, the maid servant of the family, brings up Bipin and Gopal affectionately. Sashi's is a happy family. Bidhu in very devorted to his elder brother. Bidhu's education suffers because of his elder brother's love and affection. He is always busy with Jatra and Pooja. Pramoda never accepts Sarala in good faith as everybody in the family praise Sarala very much. Even Pramoda's own son Bipin also loves Sarala. Shyama quarrels with Pramoda in favour of Sarala. Pramoda to strenghten her own position in the family brings her mother and brother Gangadhar Chandra to stays with them. Immediately there was a ripple in Sashi's happy family. Misunderstanding between the members set them apart. Bidhu was in a great distress as a result of separation. He could never dream of financial difficulty in life. Continuous starvation compelled him to leave his village for Kolkata after a bitter quarral with his wife. In the absence of Bidhu, Sarala was physically and mentally upset. Her health broke down out of starvation and anxiety. Bidhubhusan in Kolkata got a job in a certain Jatra Party. Bidhu prospered gradually in his job but he did not want to go his village even for a few days. He sent money to Gopal by post but that money is appropriated by Godadhar in collusion with Ramesh, a local police officer. Shyama brings food for Sarala and Gopal. After that Sashi grows to love another new house. A conspiracy begins at this point in the estate office against him. Three years later Bidhu comes back to his own village on leave. Bidhu 's sudden presence exposes Ramesh 's ill motives and leads to the arrest of Godadharchandra. Sashi goes to jail on account of conspirary in the estate office. Sashi can save himself by paying but Pramoda denies him money on the advice of her mother. Sashi proceeds for punishment. Bipin stays with Sarala.
