Seth Rai Bahadur (played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and his beau Laxmi (played by Beena) are desperately longing for a child. Their servant Diler (played by Mukesh Khanna) and his beau Parvati (played by Anjana Mumtaz) hand over their boy to Seth. After many years Seth is showered with a son. Diler now steals the boy and gives to his wife. But Parvati considers this to be misconduct and goes to Mumbai to return Seth his son. Meanwhile Laxmi is found dead. Parvati can’t find Seth's home and raises Amar (played by Ajay Devgan) on her own. While Diler's boy Vicky (played by Gulshan Grover) is raised vivaciously by Seth, Amar, Seth's own boy grows up under poverty. Amar becomes an inspector & loves his college friend Priya (played by Karishma Kapoor), girl of Seth’s buddy SP (played by Parikshat Sahni ). Trouble starts when Vicky too falls in love with Priya and wants to wed her. Vicky turns to blackmailing & killing under wrong guidance of his secretary (played by Tiku Talsania) and a casino/club owner Tiger (Ajeet). Destiny brings back all of them together and the truth about how Vicky and Amar got exchanged at birth is revealed.
