Before analyzing the movie, I just wish to state one thing. You haven't watched a suspense thriller like TALAASH on the Hindi screen. Ever. Also, all those sms-es prior to the release pertaining to the 'killer' are humbug, bogus and phony. Another clarification. TALAASH is not remotely similar to KAHAANI. A lot of space was devoted to the imaginary tale that TALAASH and KAHAANI were similar in nature. But you realize it's an ill-founded rumor

TALAASH - THE ANSWER LIES WITHIN engages you in every scene. Like the protagonist, it keeps you alert at all times looking for clues to solve the mystery. It gives you a feeling that you have almost cracked the crime... almost. But when the mystery is revealed, you are as shocked as inspector Surjan Singh Sekhawat (Aamir Khan). Dumbfounded would be an apt description. The finale is fantastic. It's a kick in the gut. You double up with the enormity

It’s rare to see a layered film. It’s rare to see a film where everything falls into place. It’s rarer still where actors leave their stardom behind and behave like normal people, have normal conversations, have normal reactions, normal emotions. It’s like watching a story unfolding in your neighbourhood. You sort of get involved in their stories without meaning to. Kudos to Reema and Zoya Akhtar, who have written the screenplay and the story

Talaash opens with a haunting musical track, Muskanein Jhoothi Hain, filmed in Bombay’s red light district. Arresting visuals of Mumbai by night, lend themselves beautifully to the mysterious air that pervades the night. As you take it all in with the title credits rolling on to the screen, wondering what Aamir Khan’s Talaash in the film will be, the languid pace is broken by a speeding car, that loses control and heads straight into the sea after hitting

Talaash' is a murder mystery that takes the well-trodden path of establishing links and connections that eventually help solve the jigsaw puzzle the plot throws up. However, as familiar as it may sound, Reema Kagti's film sets itself apart because of the powerful screenplay and strong performances by the lead cast. If only the pace at which it started, would have continued throughout its screen time, 'Talaash' would have been perfect

Reema Kagti's 'Talaash' is a suspense thriller that not only boasts of a taut script but has a multi-layered structure that manages to pack in enough surprises to keep the viewer hooked till the very end. The storyteller's craft lies in the fact that the modus operandi of the plot seems as intriguing as the motive of the crime. Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) is investigating the death of actor Armaan Kapoor (Vivan Bhatena) whose car seems

Bathed in a noir-like moodiness, Talaash, directed competently by Reema Kagti, opens with a leisurely paced montage of Mumbai after dark. Wafting across the neon-lit signage of seedy bars, the camera pokes its head into the backrooms of brothels where prostitutes doll up before heading out to ply their wares. Crummy-looking pimps court prospective clients for their girls, an old destitute woman stares blankly huddled in a streetside corner

Talaash starts off with a delectably picturised opening credit sequence that shows Mumbai in the dead of the night, set to the jazzy Muskaanein jhoothi hai. The sequence is captured beautifully by KU Mohanan (whose work on Aushim Ahluwalia’s Miss Lovely was among its redeeming qualities) in an attractive dark tint, a feature that remains admirably consistent throughout the film. Talaash, by and large, is an atmosphere-driven movie

Analysis is the birthright of murder mysteries. And there are three sub-genres to it -- one which deliberates on the technique and scheme of an execution, the other which relies on the shock and surprise of who did it and finally and perhaps most underestimated is the one that deals with the motive fuelling the thrill of investigation. And it is this very psychological post-mortem of why over who that dictates the immensely fascinating

Suspense-thriller’ doesn’t quite justify the genre of Talaash as people are making it out to be. To appreciate what Reema Kagti’s attempting here, you’d have to broaden the scope. More a contemporary noir with a touch of the psychological and supernatural Talaash is a mood piece that is more character study than a plot driven action thrill-a-minute caper. The talaash is two-fold for Inspector Shekhawat (Aamir Khan). Not only does he have the

So is ‘Talaash’ anything like ‘Kahaani’, you may ask. Yes, in the way all thrillers would be like each other. But otherwise, no. ‘Talaash’ shows a different canvas, paints a different mood. A no-frills taut plot, a gripping even pace, a limited character palette, some surreal moments, ‘Talaash’ is consistent as a thriller. In fact its slow, measured to-the-point story telling is its greatest strength, even if it starts giving away the plot towards the end

By no means is Talaash the end of your search for the perfect whodunit. But there is so much going for this compelling, slow-burning, well-acted tale set in the dark, grimy underbelly of Mumbai that you can barely take your eye off the screen. As a suspense thriller with a paranormal edge, it certainly isn’t action-packed. Yet Talaash, which relies far more on the intricacies of psychological drama than on the disquieting impact of visceral shocks

Whoooo.... a street dog ominously howls on a deserted road by the dark sea and you know something ghastly is about to happen right away. A celebrity death follows, even as the opening titles end. Ghastly leads to ghostly soon enough. By the first hour, as the sinister quietly soaks the frames, you are sure there is a ghost lurking amidst the cast. Like most character cliches in our films, Bollywood ghosts can be good or bad depending on who is playing them

As an Aamir Khan starrer, Talaash got the automatic branding of a unique experience. But in his quest to do something different, Khan seems to have stumbled this time as the plot gets lost in its own mystery. Inspector Shekhawat (Aamir Khan, perfect) is looking for answers to the baffling death of an actor. Why did a sober actor swivel his car in the middle of an empty street and plunge into the sea? Every inquiry, every clue ends up in a dead end

There’s a lot of searching in Talaash; Aamir’s quest to solve a murder, Rani gropes for closure, Nawazuddin tries to find a way out of his hellish life. When a famous actor dies in a mysterious accident, police officer Surjan Singh Shekhawat aka Suri (Aamir Khan) mixes up his personal and professional worlds. His search for answers takes him to seedy whorehouses and a milieu of pigheadedly uncooperative to dangerously seductive characters

To watch Talaash is to embark on a passionate love affair that ends in frustration because the object of your desire reveals itself to be shallow and depressingly ordinary. In short, a profound anti-climax. If I sound like a woman cheated, it's only because I was so invested in Reema Kagti's suspense drama. The film has one of the most terrific first hours I've seen this year. It's taut, twisty and absolutely thrilling. Reema creates a wonderfully textured

Aamir Khan and twists go a long way back. No one knew he was a cop in Sarfarosh. No one knew about the cricket match in Lagaan. No one knew he was an impostor in 3 Idiots. And no, you don’t know the twist in Talaash. Unless, of course, you’ve seen it for yourself or someone who’s seen the film has shared the secret with you. All those SMS forwards are as far from the truth as are rumours that Talaash’s storyline is similar to Kahaani

Talaash, as is common knowledge, is a suspense film but isn't supported with the complementing thriller genre. While it certainly is a who-dun-it, it isn't essentially an edge-of-the-seat experience. Director Reema Kagti intentionally chooses this treatment tone to lend individuality to the murder mystery. But the cinematic gratification is largely subjective. The film starts with a car bumping off into the sea leading to the death of a film actor

If you are contemplating watching Talaash as a challenge to your inner Sherlock Holmes or Karamchand, forget it. If, however, you want to watch this Aamir Khan thriller to suss out the IQ of the writers, i.e. story and screenplay writers Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, then, yes, please go ahead. I could, however, save you some money and tell you that their collective IQ adds up to a two-digit number in the early thirties. Talaash starts off rather well

First things first, 'Talaash' is not a film that cannot be watched. In fact it is a film that has quite a few positives going for it (the entire first half and the twist during the pre-climax). It is just that all of it doesn't sum up into a perfect film that one was expecting from the makers here, especially considering the fact that the premise was wonderful enough to warrant a fascinating tale. Aamir Khan plays a no-nonsense cop who is very unlike

Make no mistake, Talaash is a Vikram Bhatt film. Which isn't to say Bhatt actually made it (though he or Mohit Suri or Pooja Bhatt may well have at some point, who dare keep count) but that it has a story built on the exact same pulpy foundations. Just yank out the invariably catchy Pritam soundtrack, replace Emraan Hashmi or Randeep Hooda with Aamir Khan and throw in major heroines where Vishesh Films would have cast unfamiliar models

The first half of ‘Talaash’ is good enough for you not to want to blink. The atmospheric thriller, top lining an angst-ridden cop, his hollow-eyed sad sack of a wife and a stunning street-walker, has you hooked right from its lovely opening credits. In short order, all the right ingredients arrive :an accidental death, promising sub-plots, and dodgy characters, and it all starts to swing. Post-interval, though, the tale-telling starts to stutter, the pace slackens

The tough cop’s blue. Because he doesn’t have a clue. A car being speed-driven by a Bollywood hero has just crashed, smashed and plunged right into the sea. Was it a road accident? Or was there foul play? Alarmingly, there have been similar fatal crashes at the same spot but the traffic police hasn’t constructed a railing, a road divider, nothing. Strange. More bizarre events follow in Talaash directed by Reema Kagti who also co-authored the script
