Two observations before I 'dissect' TEREE SANG...One, it's often said that veterans find it extremely difficult to change with times, adapt to new-age cinema. Two, it's often said that a capable director has the potential to unearth new talent and polish their skills. The two observations hold true for Satish Kaushik, who's known for dramatic/masala entertainers and who changes gears so swiftly with TEREE SANG. Now let's begin... First and foremost, TEREE SANG is not JUNO.Read full review2.5

Teen pregnancy is such an important topic, specially in India, where no one wants to talk about it or even acknowledge its existence. Naturally, when a film maker brings you a film on this issue, you look forward to a script that not only dissects the problem, but also talks about social acceptance and suggests ways of coping with it. After all, covert abortions aren't the only solution, specially in a country that treats abortion as illegal.Read full review2.0

As film titles in Bollywood continue to follow their own bizarre numerological logic, tag lines are finally getting inventive, while the neglected story telling department is yet to catch up. Satish Kaushik’s new film is titled Teree Sang — a Kidult story, which is how it’s probably pronounced by senior citizens in outer Mongolia. Firstly, let's be clear, this isn't a remake of Juno. The only similarity is teenage pregnancy, but besides that Teree Sang is not a patch on the independent American hit film. Mahi, 15, and Kuku, 17, get drunk on champagne on a camping trip; share a tent and a kiss. She asks him 'Tum kissi ladki key saat soye ho' and before you can say Moet Chandon, she has a bun in the oven. The parents - one set rich and neglecting (hers)Read full review1.5

It isn't as witty as Juno, nor a laugh-a-riot as Knocked Up. Instead Teree Sang is the story of teenage lovers Kabir (Ruslaan) and Maahi (Sheena) who grace early parenthood when a night of camping and champagne ends up being quite 'bumpy'. Of course, their folks don't welcome the news with open arms, but scare them to run away and seek shelter in a ruined house up north. Not to forget, the film suffers from the rich dad-poor dad syndromeRead full review1.0

No, it's not Juno. In every sense of the statement. Sure, a teenager gets involuntarily knocked up and decides to give birth. That's where Teree Sang's similarity ends with pretty much every movie of its genre. If at all there have to be comparisons, Satish Kaushik's meandering melodrama is at best an incompatible marriage of Kya Kehna to Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. And for all its purported intentions to enlighten susceptible youngsters about the importance of safe sex or trauma of teen pregnancyRead full review
