The story starts with the jeweler Bhagat Uncle. He meets with Poonam who is a small town girl living with her Uncle and Aunty after the demise of her Parents. Her Uncle, Krishnakanth takes care of Poonam and he keeps her with him. S he grows under the care of her Uncle and it is then she learns the meaning of life. Poonam’s Chachi (Seema Biswas) is not willing to accept her as her own daughter because her daughter Rajini is of darker complexion. But this doesn’t affect Poonam’s and Rajini’s bond of love and affection for each other. As they are matured, Poonam’s uncle is searching for a perfect match for Poonam. So, one day when Bhagat Uncle sees Poonam, he gives Prem’s proposal to Krishnakanth. Prem is the son of rich business tycoon Harischandra’s son. Prem is very handsome and is an MBA by profession. So, Harischandra decides to meet Poonam and her family. Poonam and Prem are introduced to each other. Both of them like each other. So, Prem is asked about his decision to which he agrees and so does Poonam. Poonam’s chacha and Prem’s father arranges for the ring ceremony and Poonam’s and Prem’s love join these two families together. Krishnakath gives an invitation to Hraishchandra for a visit in Somsarovar. Harischandra along with his family goes to Somsarovar and it is here, Prem and Poonam’s relationship develops into love. Both of them are happy but there comes a time when they have to leave the place. The families start their wedding preparations and it is after this, Prem is assigned an important project in his organization. Therefore, his elder brother assigns him the responsibility of gaining the contract of the foreign company. Prem becomes successful and Poonam along with her family members go to receive him at the airport. Prem’s father arranges a social function for Prem and Poonam and they celebrate Prem’s success. Prem and Poonam spend a quality time together. Prem learns Poonam’s aspirations. Poonam’s and Prem’s wedding dates get fixed and they start their wedding preparation. But in all this Poonam’s aunty is not happy with Poonam’s wedding and she decides not to involve herself in her wedding. Then a sudden tragedy with Poonam changes the entire scenario. Poonam’s wedding place catches fire and in order to save Rajini, Poonam lays her life. Poonam’s chachi realizes her mistake and prays for her to recover. Prem on seeing Poonam still decides to marry her in the hospital and the doctors save Poonam’s life. The end is shown with the marriage ceremony of Poonam and Prem. The dialogues are very greatly written. The film highlights the importance of arrange marriage in the country. This was a blockbuster film, which received appreciation from all over the country. The songs are made in heaven I guess. The film has many wonderful moments, which make you realize of the beautiful chemistry between Shahid and Amrita. This film’s screenplay is also good. The dress designer has worked hard in giving the most traditional touch to the film.
