On the whole, WAKE UP SID is a well-made film that should strike a chord with the youth mainly. A metro-centric film, the film should attract its target audience and should also prove to be the first choice of the elite/urban audience this Friday. Its distributors [UTV] have very rightly released the film at plexes of metros and mini-metros [instead of flooding the market with physical and digital prints], which in turn should only make this small film talked-about in days to come. Thumbs Up!

They, four drunken young friends, are driving back home. They are happy and high. And Sidharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) wants to enjoy the moment. So he sticks his neck out of the sunroof and lets the friendly breeze feel his face. Without ambition or direction, that's how Sid would forever love his life to be: a cool breeze he can waltz with. But life has a way of throwing up surprises. And none is bigger for the rich, cool kid

Sid’s short for Siddharth, of course. Like every Sandeep in this country is Sandy; Aditya, Adi; Sameer, Sam... You wonder why Indian parents don’t just give their children the eventually shortened names anyway. Sid’s parents have had other pressing concerns to take care of; the son’s name is a minor one. The mother gave up formal education to raise family. Sometimes her poor access to English, she feels, disconnects her from her son. The father owns a successful company

There's a little bit of you and me and everyone we know in Siddharth Mehra, the spoilt rich-kid protagonist of director Ayan Mukherji's Wake Up Sid, the coming-of-age story of a directionless slacker played by Ranbir Kapoor. Very content spending his days clubbing with friends and poring over comic books, Sid has no ambitions for the future. He forms an unlikely platonic friendship with the slightly-older Aisha (played by Konkona Sen Sharma), an earnest girl from Kolkata

Wake Up Sid in literal terms if the coming of age story of one rich but irresponsible boy to a man. Siddharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) never had to try hard and always got everything he wished for on platter thanks to his affluent family. Freshly out from college, his attitude towards life continues to be careless as he keeps hanging around without any aim. He befriends Aisha (Konkona Sen Sharma) who has come from Kolkata to Mumbai to lead an independent life and find her own self.

In the intensely competitive world of Hindi cinema, it's not easy to spot a face in the crowd. Yet, Ranbir Kapoor does not have that problem. Wake Up Sid, a coming-of-age film, does not offer anything radically new. However, it does establish Kapoor's talent in front of the camera and Ayan Mukerji's behind it. Sid is the regular, spoilt rich kid, who is disinterested in anything taxing--be it college exams or the prospect of work.

Wake Up Sid, the directorial debut of Ayan Mukerjee, is almost lacklustre until the interval. After a cute introduction scene of 20-something Sid (Kapoor), the film follows a predictable pattern -- one exam scene, another a canteen sequence, a song at a night club, and a farewell party scene -- a la Dil Chahta Hai. Even as talk of Mukerjee's debut resonating with that of Farhan Akhtar has been doing the rounds for a while, this one is more like Akhtar's Lakshya

Ayan Mukherji exudes promise and confidence, skillfully extracting impressive performances from his cast ranging of seasoned veterans as well as rank newcomers. Wake Up Sid has its heart in place, but it still doesn't have much of a plot or novelty to rely upon. That's why the dialogues could have done with a little more quirk and nifty humour. Having said that, a superlative Ranbir makes it too darn hard to notice.

As a country, India is getting younger by the day. Today we have a majority percent of youth which is one of the highest in the world, a fact that is finally finding reflection in our Parliament, and now slowly in our cinema too. Wake Up Sid is a coming of age college film and as its all-English title suggests, targeted towards the growing tribe of urban youth. Refreshingly, though the debutant director is in his mid 20s, he displays a fairly mature hand.

Wake Up Sid is a coming-of-age film for three reasons other than its content: firstly, it marks producer Karan Johar's transistion into a new territory (less glamour, more real); the debut of young director Ayan Mukherjee and most importantly, proves once again the volcanic talent of Ranbir Kapoor. Aimed mainly at the urban, bubble-gum generation, WUS tells the story of the happy-go-lucky and lazy Sid (Ranbir) who loves living life his way no studies, no responsibilities and no pressures.
