He worked with British Dominion Films of Dhiren Ganguly and later with Pramathesh Barua's Barua Pictures. He then joined he joined New Theatres banner in 1932. He was the son of a successful advocate in Burdwan. He got the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Film Direction in 1957 and the Padma Shri in Arts in 1958.
