She then worked with Prabhat Pictures. Her movie 'Bombay Talkies' won her recognition. She was the first to endorse the 'Lux soap' advertisement. She played the role of a mother of Dilip Kumar in the film ’Mother India’. She got married to a much older man named Dr. Gajanan Yeshwant Chitnis at the age of 15 or 16. She had four children. She was later separated from him and worked as a school teacher. She also continued to act in movies.
