She was born on 8 January 1939. She is an Indian actress who had appeared in the Hindi and Marathi movies. She is known for her work in the movies such as Ittefaq, Bedaag, Neend Hamare Khwab Tumhare, Joru Ka Ghulam, Kanoon, Gumnaam, Pati Patni, Akashdeep, and Raja Saab. She hailed from Maharashtra. She was born to Vinayak Damodar Karnataki and actress Meenaxi. She worked as a child artist in the films such as Mandir, Angaarey, Jaggu, and Jagriti, etc. She got her first break in the successful brother-sister saga Toofan Aur Diya (1956). She was the first actress to be nominated as the Best Supporting Actress for Bhabhi (1957). She was the winner of Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Aanchal (1960). She had worked with the top heroes of that time such as Rajesh Khanna, Shashi kapoor, Dharmendra, Rajendra Kumar, Jeetendra and many others. She was engaged to the director Manmohan Desai.
