He did acting workshop from Film and Television Institute was the Head of the Acting Department of FTII. He is the brother of Gufi Paintal, who played Shakuni in Mahabharat serial. His son is Hiten Paintal who had worked in the movies such as Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and Dil Maange More (2004). He is known for his roles in the films such as Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar (1973). Roti (1974), Rafoo Chakkar (1975), Parichay (1972), Bawarchi (1972), Khote Sikkay (1973) Jawani Diwani (1972),Piya Ka Ghar (1972).
