He was born on 3 November 1906. He died on 29 May 1972. He was a pioneer of Indian theatre and of the Hindi film industry. He was the owner of Prithvi Theatres that was founded in 1944. He hailed from the Kapoor family. He was the Padma Bhushan in 1969 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1971 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. He completed his education from Edwardes College in Peshawar, Punjab and joined a two-year program in law to become a lawyer. He got his first break in the film’ Cinema Girl’ in 1929. He did nine movies: Be Dhari Talwar, Sher-e-Arab and Prince Vijaykumar and many others. His role in the film Vidyapati (1937) was taken well. Kapoor was also a theatre artist who did more than 2,662 plays. He is known to have filmed ‘Mughal E Azam ‘(1960) stole hearts of his fans. His performances in movies like: Sikandar-e-Azam (1965) and the stentorian grandfather in Kal Aaj Aur Kal (1971) were received well. He had an arrange marriage at the age of 17.
