She was born as Shobana Chandrakumar Pillai. She is a Bharatanatyam dancer and an Indian actress. She hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She had worked in more than 200 films. She had worked in Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and English. She was a leading actress during 80s and 90s. She had worked with the well known directors such as G. Aravindan, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, K. Balachander, Mani Ratnam, AM Fazil, Bharathan and Priyadarshan. She is the winner of the National Film Award for Best Actress twice. She is known for her performances in the films such as My Friend (2001), Manichitrathazhu (1993) and Mitr. She had been trained by Chitra Visweswaran and Padma Subrahmanyam in Bharat Natyam. Shobhana is the recipient of Padma Shri for her contributions towards the classical dance and Kala Ratna Award. She is the daughter of Chandrakumar & Dr.Anandam. She completed her schooling from Sishya School, Adyar.
