She was born on 4 November 1971. She is also known as Tabassum Hashmi. She is a well known actress and she has worked in many Telugu, Tamil, Hollywood, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali language films. She has got National Filmfare award for two times. She holds the honor for the most Best Actress (Critics) wins at Filmfare, with four. Her film work includes: Kaalapani (1995), Maachis (1996), Virasat (1997), Hu Tu Tu (1999), Astitva (2000), Chandni Bar (2001), Maqbool (2003) and Cheeni Kum (2007), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Border (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999), Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999), Fanaa (2006) and Jai Ho (2014), The Namesake, Life of Pi (2012). She is given the Padma Shri award. She was born in Hyderabad to Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana. She completed her education from St. Ann’s high school in Hyderabad. Tabu moved to Mumbai in 1983 and studied at St. Xavier's College for two years. She is also the niece of Shabana Azmi and Baba Azmi.
