She was born on 13 August 1936. She is an Indian film actress, Bharathanatyam dancer, Carnatic singer, dance choreographer and parliamentarian. She made her Telugu debut with the film’ Vazkhai’. Then after this, she became a famous actress in Telugu industry. She was a very versatile actress who gave inspiration to many other actresses to enter bollywood. She was a classic dancer from the era of ‘Hindi cinema’. She then started her acting in the films like: Bahar and Ladki. She got the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 4th Filmfare Awards. She then gave many blockbusters like: New Delhi, Naya Daur and Aasha. She was also nominated for two Filmfare Award for Best Actress Award for Sadhna and Madhumati and received the award for the former. She also tried her luck in Tamil movies like: Vanjikottai Valiban, Irumbu Thirai, Baghdad Thirudan and Then Nilavu. She was also the chairperson of 48th National Film Awards. She was born in Triplicane situated near Parthasarathy Temple. She was born in an orthodox and religious Tamil Brahmin family to M. D. Raman and Vasundhara Devi.
