NEWS OF THE DEATH OF THE MULTI-MILLIONARE AMBAPRASAD BRINGS MANY RELATIVES HOPES OF INHERITANCE. BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT AMBAPRASAD IS NOT DEAD, HE ONLY RENOUNCES HIS PRESENT LIFE FOR THE GREATER THINGS IN LIFE. HE COMES TO A VILLAGE & WHEN HE IS LYING UNDER A TREE, HE IS FOUND BY A POOR PAINTER TARUN WHO OFFERS HIM A FEE FOR POSING FOR HIM. AMBAPRASAD IS SAVED BY AARTI, THE DAUGHTER OF A LOCAL QUACK WHO DOES ODD JOBS LIKE SEWING CLOTHERS, TYPING, ETC TO EARN MONEY. TARUN LOVES AARTI BUT CANNOT MARRY HER DUE TO HIS POVERTY. AMBA STAYS WITH AARTI & HER HANDICAPPED BROTHER. IN AARTI, AMBA FINDS THE REAL EMOTIONS HE WAS SEARCHING FOR IN LIFE. IN THE MEANWHILE HE HAS BEEN CONTINUOUSLY IN TOUCH WITH HIS ADVOCATE PESTONJI. ONE DAY AMBA IS FOUND MISSING. TARUN AND AARTI SEARCH FOR HIM IN VAIN. A LETTER COMES FROM PESTONJI STATING AMBAJI’S WHEREABOUTS. THEY ARE INFORMED THAT HE IS NO MORE BUT HAS LEFT ALL HIS PROPERTY FOR AARTI. AARTI IN TEARS ASKS PESTONJI TO GIVE ALL THE MONEY TO THE POOR & NEEDY. SHE TURNS TO GO AWAY ONLY TO FIND AMBAPRASAD HALE & HEARTY. LEAVING ALL THE WEALTH BEHIND THEY GO BACK TO THE VILLAGE.

The central character is an old millionaire who is disillusioned with people around him. He loses faith in humanity and leaves his home and wanders around with his dog. His strange encounter with a poor girl and he arrival of his faith in human beings forms the crux of the story. - My dear Pestonjee, I am disillusioned with human beings. The news of my death has shown me new realities of life. The very people who pretended to be my own and upon whom I showered my love and wealth, are ready and waiting to grab my worldy possessions like a horde of vultures hovering over the mortal remains of a man. . I used to feel that they loved me for myself as one human being should love another. But I was sadly mistaken. They cared not for me but for my millions. Even taht chit of a girl whom I brought up was my daughter has accused me of the wilest possible crime only to gain for herself a share in my material wealth. . I am being choked to death as the truth about humans dawns upon me. I would die if I were to live amongst them another day. And I do not want to live and search for humanity and that is why I am leaving every thing and every ibe whom, thought my own behind. . Though I have lost my faith in human beings.
