Story
Vinayaks second film, which was also his reglar scenarist Khandekars debut with a celebrated melodrama, launched Huns Pictures. A bank employee who steals money to buy medicine for his dying wife is caught jailed and dies of shame. His eldest son Prakash (Vinayak) publishes a poem in the very newspaper that publicised his fathers crime. The judge (Hardikar) who convicted Prakashs father gives him a poetry prize and the judges daughter Chhaya (Chitinis) happens to fall in love with him. But when she learns of Prakashs family history, Chhaya allows her father and her suitor, Dr Atul (Pedharkar), to accuse Prakash molesting her and sends him to prison. Prakashs destitute sister Kala (Ratnaprabha) becomes a prostitute to pay for the younger brother Sumans (Marathe) medical bills levied by the ambitious Dr Atul. Kala bears a child and works as a porter in a small town. His annonymous existence ends when his autobiographical novel is published. The police eventually catch up with both Prakash and Kala and the two are sent back to jail. [Source: Encyclopaedia of Indian Cinema] Check out this page for more updates on Chhaya.
