In Mankipur village lives a farmer family of Gangaram (Kanhaiyalal) and Parvati (Durga Khote) who have brought up their two step brothers- in-law, Motiram (Sanjeev Kumar) and Shivram (Jeetendra), like their own sons. Gangarma has mortgaged his family land with zamindar Hari Babu to send Moti for higher education at Calcutta. Moti stands first at hsi law examination, and Shiv comes first in bullock-cart race. He loves farming in open field. . On hearing Motis success, zamindar Hari Babu agrees to forego his loan money in return for the marriage of his daughter Radha (Nanda) to Moti. Gangaram agrees to this match. Unknown to them Radha and Shiv are in love. . Moti came to village and Hari Babu announced his engagement to Radha. But Moti could not agree to this marriage as in the city he had already married Rekha (Nivedita) daughter of his teacher and prominent barrister Mahendra Babu (Tarun Bose). Coming to know about love between Shiv and Radha, Gangaram proposed marriage before Hari Babu, who refused. Now he wanted his loan money back. Shiv was sent to Calcutta to get the money form Moti, where Rekha tells her guests Shiv was their servant. A humiliated Shiv returns to his village. Moti demands ten thousand rupees form Mahendra Babu. He gets only disappointment. . Shiv again goes to Calcutta and becomes a taxi-driver, Moti has left the place of his father-in-law and started his independent practice. Radha leaves village and runs away to Calcutta. She takes shelter with Moti. . Hari Babu, on the basis of false documents goes to court to take possession of Gangarams land. Mahendra Babu and Moti come face to face in the legal battle.
