Huns Pics last film transferred the Mahabharata Savitri tale about marital devotion of modern Maharashtrian middleclass setting exploting anti-Western feeling to advocate a traditionalist misogynist ideology. Satyavan (Vinayak), a university professor, admires the beautiful, English speaking and cigarette-smoking Arundhati (Chitins), wife of colleague. He hires a tutor to train his own wife Savitri (Meenakshi) in Western manners. When Satyavan succeeds in having an affair with Arundhati, she humiliates him by making him do domestic chores and the abandons him for the rich Z. Marutrao (Pendharkar). Satyavan finally comes to his senses and asks the gods to intervene, which reunites with the faithful Savitri. * *.* Satyavan, a professor and a modern intellectual, is dissatisfied with his old-fashioned wife Savitri. He envies the good fortune of another professor whose wife Arundhati is a thoroughly modern lady. However, Arundhati is not at all happy with her husband who seems to find books more attractive than his accomplished and beautiful wife. . In the hope of "improving" Savitri, Satyavan engages a teacher who promises to teach anything from the alphabet to social conversation within a very short time. Simultaneously, Satyavan himself carries on his efforts; he attempts to make her smoke a cigarette -she chokes on it; he takes her out in westernized clothes and tight shoes, carrying a purse and a parasol-it is a disaster; he throws a party at home for her to parctise her social conversation in English-every time she opens her mouth, she puts her foot in it. The guestsss are highly amused; Satyavan is disgusted. . Satyavan visitss Arundhati just when her husband is leaving for a conference in another town against he wishes. The unhappy husband and the unhappy wife now get together and live a life of romance and poetry to such a degree that the scandalized servants leave the house. Satyavan willingly takes on the household chores for the sake of his beloved Arundhati, but is soon discarded in favour of Z. Marutrao, a Philanderer with a magnetic personality-or so Arundhati believes. The love-lorn professor refuses to give up hope even though his family tries hard to make him come back home. Finally Satyavans mother appeals to the gods to bring her son back to his senses. Realizing his stupidity his and cured of his desire for a modern wife, Satyavan] return to Savitri.
